HEADNOTES AUDITIONS

The Headnotes will be hosting 2015-2016 auditions on Saturday, September 12th from 10:00am to 5:00pm. To sign up for an audition slot, visit our table in Hutchins Hall any day during lunch or stop by our table at the Org Fair on September 10th.

FAQ:

What is the audition like?

Your Headnotes audition will last about 15 minutes.  The entire group will be present to observe the audition. First, our Musical Director will have you do ascending and descending scales to get a sense of your vocal range. Next, he will test your ability to match pitch by playing combinations of notes on the piano and having you sing them back.  You will finish up the audition by singing a verse and a chorus (or about 45 seconds) of a song of your choice without accompaniment. The song can be of any genre, in any language, and from any time period; however, we suggest you prepare a song that best demonstrates your singing ability.

I have no formal musical training. Can I still audition for Headnotes?

Our members hail from a variety of musical backgrounds. Some have many years of formal musical training while other members' singing experience prior to joining Headnotes was limited to the four walls of their bathroom shower. No formal musical training is necessary to audition, nor are our members required to possess the ability to read or arrange music. If you do have the ability to read or arrange music, you should mention it during your audition.

I'm nervous about taking on too much during my first year of law school. Do I have time for Headnotes as a 1L?

The Headnotes rehearse for two hours on both Sunday and Wednesday nights for two hours. We expect all members to attend rehearsal regularly, with exceptions made for things like illness or family emergency. Most of our members auditioned for Headnotes at the beginning of their 1L year and experienced no trouble keeping up with their law school coursework. In fact, many of our members have found their fellow Headnotes members to be a helpful resource for things like course outlines, exam-taking tips, and emotional support during the stressful exam period. Our members that chose not to audition during their 1L year (fearing they did not have time) have expressed regret about not auditioning for the group sooner.

Do the Headnotes like karaoke?

Ummm, is this even a question? We LOVE karaoke and we often karaoke together after rehearsal. Join us for the fun!
